Louis Woodrow Taylor known as Woodrow, was born on December 12, 1933, in Welch, West, Virginia and peacefully passed away on October 11, 2024. He was the second of eight children born to Rosa Lee and Henry Abraham Taylor.
After high school, Louis began working for one of Virginia's oldest furniture manufacturers, at the same junction he attended the Nursing Core Program located in Virginia. While attending St Paul’s College in Lawrenceville Virginia, he was drafted into Service during the Korean War, where he served for 2 years in the Nursing Corps, stationed in Seattle Washington.
A true self-made entrepreneur at heart, Louis established his own General Contractor business for 50 years, while also working weekends as a cab driver for Red Foxx Taxi. He later joined his Orange Family which he enjoyed working at Home Depot where he finishes out his career. He became a well-known pillar in his community serving on various committee such The New Rochelle Business Network, Remington Men’s Club, the Shriners, an F.O.I. Lieutenant, and a proud Freemason. He also held the role as President and Vice President of the T.G.S.P - Taylor, Green, Starkey and Purdue Family Reunion committee.
Louis is survived by his beloved wife, Marie; his daughter Tynnetta and son-in-law Tyrone; his daughter Zainab; and his sons Bilal and Naeem. He also leaves behind his; grandchildren Amir, Alicia, Dahlia, Halimah, and Amya; as well as his brother Don and sisters Mary (Bobby), Betty, and Roberta. He is preceded in death by his older brother Fred; younger brothers Eugene and Curtis Senior; his mother Rosa Lee; his father Henry; and his son Lateef.
Louis Woodrow Taylor lived a remarkable life, marked by love, resilience, and an unwavering spirit. His legacy will endure throughout the countless lives he touched, the lessons he imparted, and the love he shared with his family. As we gather to celebrate his life, we honor the memory of a truly extraordinary man who will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home live via Facebook.
