Obituary For Mitchell Winston Beard

Mitchell Winston Beard entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. He was born January 6, 1957, in Hotsprings, VA to the late Dorothy Jane Wheeler and Edward Beard Sr.

Mitchell Beard served in the United States Army and he moved to Lynchburg, VA after and worked for Terry Volkswagen Subaru for 28 years before becoming ill with Stage V Renal Failure and Prostate Cancer. After receiving a kidney transplant in 2018 he remained in generally good health until his recent medical struggles. Mitchell received Christ at a very early age and believed in serving others. He always had a joke to share with others and believed in keeping a smile on everyone’s face.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather Ernest L. Lindsay Sr.; two brothers, Edward Beard Jr. and Dennis D. Lindsay; and one grandchild Timothy Goode Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving devoted wife of forty-seven years Lorraine Brown Beard; five children, Eric Beard (Jaclyn Beard), Feonna Beard Hubbard (Gregory Hubbard), Yvonne Jenelle Crews (John Crews IV), Michael Beard, Jessica Beard Goode (Timothy Goode); one devoted sister Doris May Lindsay (Peter Via); one brother Ernest L. Lindsey Jr. (Lisa Lindsey); his devoted mother in law Yvonne S. Brown; three devoted sister in laws Yolanda Brown Creech, Kimberly Brown Gruzwalski, and Christine Brown; one devoted brother in law Sherwood Brown (Janeen Brown); two special adopted daughters Terrisa R. Vaughn (Leonard Vaughan) and Whitney N. Brown (Donald Brown); nineteen grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and special friends.

Words cannot begin to express how much he will be missed, but we are so grateful that he is resting in the arms of Jesus and he is no longer suffering in pain. Thank you to all those who have visited, called, and showered love and affection on his family.

The family will receive friends at the residence 7502 Timberlake Road, Apt 608 (Timber Ridge II) Lynchburg, VA.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

On behalf of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, we would like to send our condolences to the Sis. Beard and the children. We were sadden to hear of Bro. Beard's transition. We will always remember Bro. Beard when he attended Mt. Olivet always a spiritual member and loved God. But we are praying for your strength in the coming days. As 2 Corinthians 5:8 says "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord" Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Bedford, VA

My dearest family, Words cannot express the sorrow I feel over the passing of our dear Mitch. He was more than a son-in-law to me; he was a kind & joyful man who brought so much happiness into our lives. I will always cherish the memories of our spades games. He had a way of making every round fun, & I will truly miss his laughter filling the room. He could make anyone smile, & his playful spirit will be deeply missed. Mitch was a true child of God, & his faith was an inspiration to all of us. He lived his beliefs through his actions, always willing to help anyone who needed it. He had a great smile & a giving heart, & it's comforting to know that a soul so kind is now at peace in heaven with the Lord. It was a joy to see the love he had for his children & grandchildren. That love will live on through them, a beautiful legacy of his caring & devoted spirit. Though I will miss him, I am grateful for the time he, his wife Lorraine & I had together. He will forever be in my heart. With love an & deepest sympathy, T.J. Brown
