Obituary For Mother Edith Jane Stone

With humble hearts and submission to the will of God, we announce the transition of Mother Edith Jane Martin Stone, age 82, of Old Liberty Dr., Axton, Virginia. Mother Stone peacefully departed this life and entered eternal rest on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, Edith was the beloved daughter of the late Jesse James Martin, Sr. and Nannie Kate Martin. She spent her life rooted in faith, family, and community. Her warmth, grace, and unwavering spirit touched countless lives in her beloved community.
Mother Stone was a founding member of Apostolic Church Sanctuary alongside her husband of 63 years, Bishop Chauncey Stone serving in a variety of capacities including, Church Mother, Usher, Missionary and Church Clerk. Later, Mother Stone transitioned to the works of True Bread Worship Center under the pastorate of Bishop Wesley Childress. Mother Stone retired from the Tultex Corporation and as a CNA. She attended Virginia State University. and Liberty University.
In addition to her parents, Mother Stone was preceded in death by her siblings, Shirley Martin, Annie Adams, Howard Martin, Leroy Martin, Jesse James Martin, Jr., Melvin Martin and Calvin Martin.
She leaves behind a rich legacy of love, kindness, and devotion. Her memory will be forever cherished by her devoted husband, Bishop Chauncey C. Stone of the residence; two daughters, April Moore of Greensboro, NC and Chauncea “Jamie” Stone of Charlotte, NC; one son, Elder Mitch L. Stone of Chesapeake, VA; two grandchildren, Carlos M. Moore and Kelton J. Stone-Lewis both of Atlanta, GA; two God-children, Dr. Barry “BJ” Broadnax, Jr of Matinsville, VA, and Stacey Stone-Green of Charlotte, NC; five sisters, Willie Mae Eggleston, Virginia Gravely and Helen Giles all of Martinsville, VA, Naomi Tucker of Axton, VA and Dorothy Strange of Cascade, VA; three brothers, Samuel Martin, Bernard Martin and Marvin Martin all of Axton, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and all those whose lives she illuminated with her gentle presence.
A visitation service will be held on Sunday, July 19,2026, at 2:30 p.m. with the funeral service at 3 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA with Bishop Wesley Childress, Eulogist. Interment will follow on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Burial Park103 Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA.
The family will receive friends at Hairston Funeral Home on Saturday, July 18, 2026, between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 2516 Old Liberty Dr., Axton, VA. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home live via Facebook.
