On Wednesday, February 16, 2022, Mother Myrtle Richardson Carter transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life. Born July 20, 1919, in Virginia, she was the daughter of Albert Richardson and Georgia Eggleston Richardson who preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Carter; three daughters, Betty L. Campbell, Karen E. Miller, and Cynthia Carter; four grandchildren, and her eleven siblings’.
Myrtle was a member of the Galilean House of Worship where she was the oldest member of the church, she was the Church Mother, and she was a member of the Voter’s Registration for the city of Martinsville.
Those left to cherish her memory include: five daughters, Regina J. Carter, and Pamela D. Carter both of Boston, MA, Doris (Joseph) Reynolds, and Judy (Lawrence) Venable both of Martinsville, VA, and Melanie D. Carter of Greensboro, NC; six sons, Jesse D. (Katrina) Carter of Newport News, VA, Robert S. (Rebecca) Carter of Danville, VA, Kimberly B. Carter, Alan Scott Carter, and Dale B. Carter all of Martinsville, VA, and Terrance J. (Dedra) Carter of Chester, VA; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Bishop Michael Penn, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. All other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Judy, and Lawrence Venable, 319 Tommy Carter Rd., Axton, VA. The family ask that when visiting the home, you would observe all CDC guidelines.
