Mrs. Josephine Vonee Garrett Johnson departed this life Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, in Winston Salem, NC. She was born on October 29, 1950 in Martinsville, VA, to the late Squire Wesley and Lessie Dora Carter Garrett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Muddrick Tiny Johnson Jr., her son, Muddrick T. Johnson III; her sister Wilhelmenia G. Taylor; and her brother, James W. Garrett.
Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Kevin D. Johnson of Martinsville, Va; two granddaughters, three great- granddaughters and one godson, Jeremy O. Hodge and host of family and friends.
Josephine was a member of First Baptist Church of East Martinsville. She served as the pianist for Sunday School and later, as the organist. She was a graduate of Martinsville High School, the Class of 1969 and retired from the City of Martinsville in Housing Services.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 30, 2018 at 2 p.m. for visitation and all other times at the home, 21 Dunlap St., Martinsville, Va. Funeral service will be held Sunday, December 30, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at The C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, Martinsville, Va. Pastor Charles Whitfield, Eulogists.
The burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens, Martinsville, Va.
I was so sorry to read about Vonee's passing, and I know the loss on Christmas made it that much worse for the family. I worked with Vonee at the City Housing Office from the time she was hired in the late 70's until I relocated in 1987. Long ago now, but she was someone I will always remember fondly.
