Nannie C. Carter 97, born to Reb and Mary Lizzie Peters Carter in Pittsylvania County, VA on April 2, 1927. In addition to her parents, Nannie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Donnell Carter, one son, Jerome Carter, and one sister, Callie Coles.
Nannie was a member of Jerusalem Christian Church (DOC) in Martinsville, VA. She worked all her life until her retirement from the Henry County Public School System. She was known for her beautiful flowers and her trademark Potato Salad, and family history.
Those left to cherish her memory includes one son, Thomas Carter (Gwendolyn) of Martinsville, VA; one daughter, Cynthia McMillan (Wayne) of Richmond, VA; one granddaughter, Tiffany Carter of Richmond, VA; two great grandchildren, Tristan Carter and Chase Robinson both of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at Jerusalem Christian Church (DOC), 35 Meadow Garden LN., Martinsville, VA with Pastor Robert Smith, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
