Phyllis Watkins Davis Moore passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026.

Phyllis was life in motion, vibrant, lively, and as bold as her favorite color, red. She had a way of making every room feel warmer and every person feel seen. She never met a stranger, only people she had not yet welcomed. Her laughter was contagious, her smile freely given, and her presence unforgettable.

Born on April 14, 1953, Phyllis lived a life rooted in love, faith, and connection. She graduated from George Washington Carver, class of 1971, and Danville Community College, class of 1974, where she formed lifelong friendships that remained incredibly important to her. She stayed closely connected with her classmates over the years, cherishing those relationships deeply. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Axton, Virginia. She was an active member of Zion Baptist Church and lived her faith through service and connection with others.

Phyllis retired from AEP American Electric Power after many years of dedicated service. She found joy in caring for others, in her community, and most of all in her family—both the one she was born into and the countless people she gathered along the way as chosen family.

Phyllis had a heart for service and gave her time in many meaningful ways. She visited seniors, spending time playing cards or simply sharing a joke. She was part of a greeting card group she dearly loved, where sending cards became a ministry that reflected her thoughtful and giving spirit. She also volunteered at voting polls and found joy and laughter with her bunko group.

She is survived by her loving son, Richard Davis Jr.; her grandsons, McKendrick Allman, and Richard Davis III; her mother, Lulla Bell Watkins; her siblings, Joseph H. Watkins Jr, Hilda W. Perdue, and Jacquelyn Watkins; her cousin Judy Harris Hodge, who was like a sister; her uncle Richard Watkins (Delilah); and a multitude of cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Moore; her father, Joseph H. Watkins; and her grandmothers, Lucy B. Hairston and Bessie W. Harris.

A graveside service will be held at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Drive, Martinsville, VA, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.

The family will receive friends and family on May 9th at 12:00 p.m., with the memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church in Parkersburg, WV.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Clarence and Rose Thompkins for the time, care, and love they gave Phyllis.

Phyllis will be deeply missed, but the love she gave and the lives she touched will remain forever.
