Reverend William Henry Hairston, Jr., 81 of Martinsville, VA, transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, October 12, 2020 at SOVAH Health, Martinsville. He was born in Martinsville, VA on October 3, 1939, the son of the late William H. Hairston, Sr. and the late Dora Hairston Hairston.
In addition to his parents, Reverend Hairston was preceded in death by five sisters, Elizabeth H. Moyer, Ruby J. Hairston, Ruth H. Chisholm, Ella Mae H. Hodge, and Betty H. Hunt; three brothers, James R. Hairston, Timothy A. Hairston, and Vincent K. Hairston.
At an early age, Reverend Hairston accepted the Lord as his personnel Savior and became a member of the Jerusalem Christian Church (DOC) under the leadership of his grandfather Reverend James C. Hairston. Later in life, Reverend Hairston became the Pastor of the Iron Belt Christian Church (DOC); and remained the Pastor until his untimely death. William Henry was a Funeral Service Attendant at Hairston Funeral Home for over forty years, and he retired from Fieldcrest Cannon Mills. He was a member of the G. P. Watkins Mason Lodge #320, Martinsville, VA.
Reverend Hairston leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Wonda Valentine Hairston of the home; two daughters, Linda Rivalte of Ridgeway, VA and Marcia Hairston of Martinsville, VA; two sons, Alonzo (Retta) Hairston of Ridgeway, VA and Elbert (Yolanda) Valentine of Killeen, TX; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; two sisters, Alice H. (John) Hughes and Janet H. Jamison both of Martinsville, VA; four brothers, Frederick D. (Sheda) Hairston, Samuel L. (Arnette) Hairston, Russell L. (Denise) Hairston all of Martinsville, VA and Anthony J. (Cathy) Hairston of Patrick Co., VA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, Nephews, his Iron Belt Christian Church family; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Reverend Hairston will be held on Monday, October 19, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Bishop Avery Preston, Eulogist. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering and social distancing is required. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home, 122 Eagle Lane, Martinsville, VA. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olive East Christian Church Cemetery.
