On Friday, December 29, 2023, Richard J. Walker, Sr 55, of Cordover Dr., Martinsville, VA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at his residence. He was born November 25, 1968, in Martinsville, VA to the late Robert Lee Walker, and Mary Elizabeth Hodge Walker.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John Henry and Marie Hodge.
Richard attended the First Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Martinsville, VA, and attended Laurel Park High School. He was disabled.
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Tracy Walker of the home; three sons, Stacy Walker, Richard Walker, Jr. both of Martinsville, VA, and Dont'a Walker of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, Traylon Ingram, Xzavyema Hairston, Kiara Brown and Destiny Walker; two brothers, Roderick Walker, and Robert Walker both of Martinsville, VA; one sister, Terrie Williamson Stovall of Raleigh, NC; one nephew, Damantas Williamson of Martinsville, VA; two nieces, Ashante' Williamson of Martinsville, VA, and Nyisha Williamson of Wake Forest, NC; two aunts, Celestine Jamison of Martinsville, VA; and Lillie Wells Williams of Irvington, N.J.; and a host of other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA. The burial will follow at the Morrison Family Cemetery, Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 491 Cordover Dr., Martinsville, VA.
