Mrs. Ruby Jean Martin Butler departed this life on May 9, 2026, at the age of 89. She was born on October 7, 1936, in Martinsville, Virginia. Ruby was the beloved daughter of the late Willie Grant Martin and Annie Reynolds-Martin.
She attended Carver High School and dedicated much of her early life caring for the family home and was considered a “second mother” to her siblings. She later served as a devoted homemaker for her husband and children. Ruby found joy in spending time with those she loved and creating lasting memories with her children and grandchildren.
Ruby was united in marriage to Clarence Butler Sr., who affectionately referred to her as “the love of my life”. Over the past 71 years, Ruby and her husband built a life centered around faith, family, and love. She was overwhelmed with excitement that she was blessed to see her 5th generation great-great grandson, Kaysen Page.
Ruby was a faithful member of Gospel Light United Holy Church, where she served as an active Mother of the church. Her faith guided her life, and she was known for her caring heart, warm smile, and unwavering love for her family and community. She was considered a spiritual and life mentor to all that received her wisdom.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Clarence Butler Sr. of the home; and two sisters, Jacquelyn Myers and Hildred Moorman; one daughter, Janice Butler-Muse (Michael); one son, Clarence P. Butler Jr.; one adopted son, Johnny Cokley (Phyllis); four grandsons, Andreas Strong, Julius Page, Brandon Page, and Allen Muse; three granddaughters, Jessica Butler, Clarice Butler, and Andrea Muse; and five great-grandsons, Alexander Butler, Brandon D. Page, Justyce Page, Ayden Butler, and Avion Rich; and two great-granddaughters, Jazmyn Page and Jada Page; and one great-great grandson Kaysen Page, all of Martinsville, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
A visitation service will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 12 noon with the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at C.R.V. Memorial Chapel with Elder James Leath, officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
