Theodore A. Dodson, 77, of Mulberry Road, Martinsville, VA, departed this life on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Carilion Clinic Hospice, Roanoke, VA. He was born in Martinsville, VA on January 2, 1948, the son of the late Grady Hairston and Virginia Dodson Hairston.
In addition to his parents, Theodore was preceded in death by one sister, Cassie M. Preston and three brothers, Sanford Millner, Stafford Redd and Charles Landers.
Theodore was retired from Nationwide Homes and from Asplundh Tree Service. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam Conflict. Theodore attended George Washington Carver High School.
Theodore leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Tanya Bernard (Charlton) of Leesburg, FL, Nicole Burgess Dillard (Jesse) and Kimberly Dodson both of Martinsville, VA; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Taylor of Orlando, FL and Joy Redd-Skinner of Morrisville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 3 p.m. with the funeral service at 3:30 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA with Bishop Alan Preston and Bishop Michael Penn, Ministerial Reflections.
On Friday, August 8, 2025, family and friends may pay their respect to the family at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Jesse Dillard, 1502 Mulberry Rd., Martinsville, VA between the hours of 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. daily.
