Thomas D. “Doug” Smith, 48, of Axton, VA departed this life on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Eden, NC November 24, 1971, the son of Georgia A. Hairston Smith and the late Thomas E. Hairston.
He was a member of the Galilean House of Worship where he was a member of the Male Chorus. Prior to becoming a disabled truck driver for Werner Trucking Company, Thomas worked at Sara Lee Knitting Company.
Thomas leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Georgia A. Hairston Smith of Danville, VA; two brothers, Cecil T. (Joan S.)Smith of Yorktown, VA, and Anthony D. Smith of Dallas, TX; three sisters, Janice S. (Jerry R.) Bailey of Reidsville, NC, Tangela Hairston of Danville, VA and Chrystal Hairston of Martinsville, VA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A private funeral services will be held according to the CDC guidelines. Hairston Funeral Home is serving the Smith Family. Public viewing will be Thursday, April 2, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hairston Funeral Home.
