On Friday, August 8, 2025, Vergie Delois Flood Hairston 73, of Royal Dr., Martinsville transitioned peacefully at Stanleytown Health & Rehab Center. She was born in Martinsville, VA on June 17, 1952, the daughter of the late James Edward Flood and Margie Stockton Flood.
In addition to her parents, Vergie was preceded in death by one sister, Dale E. Echols, and one brother, James F. Flood.
At an early age, Vergie became a member of Rock Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
Vergie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, James H. “Punkin” Hairston of the home; one daughter, Ashley T. Hairston; two sons, Quinton A. Hairston (Candace) and Martin A. Hairston (April) all of Martinsville, VA; four grandchildren, Lyric Farris, Janylah Farris, Cameron Moore and Lanaya Hairston; two sisters, Violet J. Dawson (Ricardo) of Martinsville, VA and JoAnn Witcher of Trenton, NJ; caregiver/sister, Clovia Hampton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA with Elder Percy Stockton, Eulogist. Interment will follow at the Rock Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 148 Stockton Rd., Martinsville, VA.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 916 Royal Dr., Martinsville between the hours of 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home via Facebook.
