Virginia Marie “Reece” Hairston, 91, of Banner Street Martinsville, VA departed from this life Friday, February 4, 2022 at SOVAH Health in Martinsville. She was born on November 23, 1930 in Bluefield WV, to the late John Matthew Hairston and late Thelma Philpott Mathis Hairston.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by her husband Buford Hairston Sr., son Kenneth D. Hairston, sisters Peggy Turner, Sabina Hairston, Norma Burton, Thelma Cooper, and brothers Donald Ray Hairston, and Matthew Hairston Jr.
Reece was a member of Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church in Martinsville, VA. She was a vigorous leader of the kitchen committee, a member of the mother’s board, an active secret sister, and a member of the usher board.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include: three daughters, Vanessa (Uriel) Williams Reid of Martinsville, VA, Tracey Herndon of Martinsville, VA, and Hilda “Bugg” Hairston of Bridgepoint, CT; two sons, Buford Hairston, Jr. of Martinsville, VA, and Jerry (Anita) Hairston of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters, Shirley (Hezekiah) Dillard of Martinsville, VA, and Marion Carter of Martinsville, VA; one brother, Ricky Hairston of Roanoke, VA, ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchild, one great great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Reece will be held Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church Martinsville, VA at 1 p.m. with Brother Renaldo Hairston, Eulogist. The burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 1148 Banner Street Martinsville, VA 24112. In accordance with the CDC’s guidance, the service will require a face cover and social distancing.
It is spring time when the flowers and trees bloom this was Moms favorite time of the year new life. I miss and love you Mama Ness
