Wendell Ellis Jones, 60, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025. He was born in Amherst County on December 1, 1964. He was the fourth of six children born to the late Sterling Jones Jr. and Doris Massie Jones.
Known as 'Jazz' by many, he was mischievous, funny, a very talented artist and he loved his family above all else.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sterling Jones Sr. and Aurelia Tyler Jones and James and Effie Sales Massie.
He is survived by his daughter, Taylor Jones of Madison Heights; his brother, Jeffrey Neal) Jones (Robin), of Madison Heights; his sisters, Wanda (Bug) Jones of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Robin Jones and Courtney Jones of Amherst and Donna Jones Smith (James), of Madison Heights; his nieces and nephews, Crystal Rosson of Lynchburg, Geoffrey Jones (Brittany), of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Chanda Smith (Tim) of Lynchburg, Janell Jones of Lynchburg, Myles and Devin Sparrow of Riverview, Florida, Cody Graybill of Forest, Jalen and Donovan Withers of Madison Heights and Nicholas Jones of Madison Heights; his great nieces and nephews, Sydney Cook and Zoe Rosson of Madison Heights, Maleigha and Aviah Jones of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Avery Sparrow of Madison Heights, Kyrie and Teigan Sparrow of Riverview, Florida, and Ariane, Tyler and Taylor Charlton of Lynchburg and Tim, Nori, Everly and Kai Smith of Lynchburg; one aunt, Pearl Jones of Amherst and numerous cousins and friends.
A Memorial service will be held for Wendell Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark Baptist Church, 2028 Lexington Highway, Amherst, VA 24521. With William A. Glover, officiating and Reverend Rodney Sandidge, eulogist. Interment will be private.
