Obituary For William Herman Payne, Jr.

William Herman Payne, Jr., aged 64, of Fieldale, Virginia, peacefully passed away at his residence on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. He was a kind, friendly, and well-loved member of the community who will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

William’s faith and spiritual journey were central to his life. He was a dedicated member of the Healing Worship Deliverance Center in Martinsville, VA, where he found great strength, fellowship, and joy in praising God. Throughout his life, William also valued community connection and spiritual growth, frequently attending and participating in services and activities at Steppingstones and Open Arms. His welcoming presence and gentle spirit brought light to every congregation and gathering he joined. William was a graduate of New Rochell High School in New Rochell, New York.

William was preceded in death by his father, William Herman Payne, Sr. and one nephew, Tyre N. Johnson.

William leaves to cherish his loving memory, his mother, Gracie Oliver Payne of the home; one sister, Pandorian P. Johnson of Fieldale, VA; two nephews, Bishop Terrel F. Johnson and his wife, Princess of Bassett, VA and Ryeland A. Johnson and his wife, Rhonda of Greensboro, NC; two great- nephews, Orlando Johnson of Greensboro, NC and Ethan Johnson of Fieldale, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at Healing Worship Deliverance Center, 240 E. Market St., Martinsville, VA with Bishop Terrel Johnson, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA.

The family will receive friends at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville on Sunday, June 14, 2026, between the hours of 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the residence, 1845 The Great Rd., Fieldale, VA. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, close friends, neighbors, and his church community.
