William "Snakey" Gravely

Obituary For William "Snakey" Gravely

On Monday, November 23,2020, God in His infinite wisdom saw fit to call from labor to reward Deacon William "Snakey" Gravely. He was born in Virginia on May 21, 1942, the son of the late William H. Gravely and the late Laura Patterson Gravely. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Gravely and Marshall Gravely.

He was a faithful member of the Saint Paul's High Street Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Superintendent of the Sunday School for many years, the Usher Board, the Male Chorus, and several other choirs. He attended Living in Episcopal Bible College under Dr. Hunter, in Greensboro, NC. He was a member of the Martinsville Hunting Club. He was a self employed contractor for many years. He was a 1960 graduate of Albert Harris High School.

Deacon Gravely leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Lucy B. Gravely of the home; two daughters, LaKesha Gravely (Allen Michael Cook) Martinsville, VA, and Catrina (Chris) Fulton of Winston Salem, NC; one son, William (Cheryl) Gravely of Martinsville, VA; eight grandchildren, Derres Young, Brittany Hairston, Tiera Gravely, Kalynn Fulton, Joushua Gravely, William Fulton, Ni'jel Gravely-Cook, and Sincere Cook; one great grandchild, Avaleena Young; four sisters, Linda Gravely and Brenda Manns both of Martinsville, VA, Susie Bradboy of Danville, VA, and Donna Courts of Beckley, West Virginia; two brothers, Ronald Gravely of Martinsville, VA, and Donald Courts of Beckley, West Virginia; one brother-in-law, Paul Brimmer of Martinsville, VA; one sister-in-law, Barbara D. Brimmer of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020 at 1 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Pastor Matthew Brown, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2020 at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. All other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home, 605 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA.
