Obituary For Windle E. Watkins
On Sunday, October 1, 2023, Windle Watkins 90, of Martinsville, transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life. He was born in Pittsylvania County, VA, on May 6, 1933, the son of the late Willie O. Watkins, and the late Ethel Law Watkins.
In addition to his parents, Windle was preceded in death by his wife, Lillar Eggleston Watkins; four sisters, Lorene Fulton, Helen Keen, Glodean Carter, and Dorothy Martin, and two brothers, Howard Watkins and Phillip Watkins.
Windle accepted Christ at an early age, and attended Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church, and later attended Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Stone Container after many years of dedicated service. He was a United States Army Veteran.
Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Windle T. Watkins of Charlotte, NC, and Michael Watkins of Winston Salem, NC; one sister, Florence Amos of Axton, VA; one brother, Virgil Watkins of Martinsville, VA; three sisters-in-law, Pearl E. Carter, and Willie Mae Eggleston both of Martinsville, VA, and Leadell Watkins of Axton, VA; one brother-in-law, Jimmie Carter of Axton, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the First Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 4174 Chatham Rd., Martinsville, VA with Pastor John Adams, Eulogist. The burial will follow at the Eggleston Family Cemetery, Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will be receiving friends at the home, 4129 Chatham Rd., Martinsville, VA beginning on Friday.
