Bobby Ray Courtney was born on April 24, 1958, in Baton Rouge to Alex and Olivia Jingles Courtney. It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend on November 5, 2025. Bobby was a 1976 graduate of McKinley Senior High School. He was employed with DOTD for 30 years and retired in October 2007. Baptized December 1983 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Bobby was a dedicated and humble servant for over 40 years. A lover of Bible truths, he had a solid faith in the resurrection hope. (John 6:40) Bobby will best be remembered for his contagious laugh and even more so for his GREAT GENEROSITY and care for family, friends, and anyone in need. He leaves to cherish his love and kindness his wife of 29 years, Ruth Thomas Courtney; two sons, Robert Paul Ponds and Mark Edward Thomas; five sisters Mattie Griffin, Joi Shelton, Connie Gilmore, Rita (Albert) Young and Sheila (Keith) London; three brothers Larry Courtney, Alex Courtney Jr and Ronald (Brenda) Courtney; brother-in-law, Micah (Sheila) Thomas and a sister-in-law, April Lynea Thomas. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Olivia and Alex Courtney, two sisters, Helen James and Cathy Cable and one brother, Tonny Courtney. To respect his stated wishes, there will be no funeral and/or memorial service.
