Melvin Sanders, 84 years old, was called to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early hours of Easter Sunday on April 20, 2025. He passed peacefully into eternal rest surrounded by his loving wife and children. Melvin entered the world on October 7, 1940, born to Edward and Josie Sanders. He was a proud graduate of Capitol High School and Shaw University. Melvin retired from Exxon Refinery after 35 years of service, serving many years as Refinery Superintendent. Melvin leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and generosity. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Sylvia Woodard Sanders; son, Bruce Sanders (Kathy); daughters, Melva Sanders Malone (Daryl), and Heidi Sanders Hill (John). He is also survived by siblings, Vernon Sanders, Lurtie Sanders Dillon, and Constance Sanders, as well as grandchildren, Bruce Edward Sanders, Olivia Sanders, Mia Malone, Megan Sanders, Naomi Hill, Nathan Hill (Harshi), Nicholas Hill, Nathalie Hill, and Noah Hill; great-grandchild, Eva Sanders. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Melvin Ray Sanders; parents, Edward and Josie Sanders. Melvin's spirit will live on in the cherished memories and values he instilled in all those fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, St. Mark United Methodist Church, 6217 Glen Oaks Drive, Visitation from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Omega Service will begin at 9:45 am. Service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Melvin Sanders may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church by mail 6217 Glen Oaks Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70811 in honor of his lifelong dedication.

Melvin and I would walk at the same time in the mornings around the lake in our neighborhood. I so enjoyed visiting with him. May he rest in peace.
