Ruth Lewis Crawford died peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. She was 93 years old, a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, a member of Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Baton Rouge Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and a retired educator with eleven years of service in the College of Education at Southern University and nineteen years of service in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. Visitation at Camphor Memorial UMC on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 9:00 am, Delta Sigma Theta Omega Omega rites at 10:00 am, and religious service at 11:00 am conducted by Pastor Kermit C Roberson. Interment at Southern Memorial Gardens. She is survived by her daughters Karlene Crawford and Rhonda (Michael) Stewart; granddaughters Jessica Stewart, Erica Stewart, and Allison Stewart; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew W. Crawford; parents, Simon Lewis and Pearl Morton Lewis; sister, Bernice Lewis Lemons; twin sister who died at birth, Naomi; and nephew Alvin Lemons, Jr. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Our House for Respite, 2967 Carmen Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70809 or The Hospice of Baton Rouge and The Butterfly Wing Impatient Unit, 3600 Florida Boulevard, Suite 1100, Baton Rouge, LA 70806. Masks are required for viewing, visitation, and religious service.
