It is with heavy hearts but grateful spirits that we celebrate the beautiful life of Tyressa “Terri” Amar Decuir, who passed peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at 59 years old. She was born to the late Vernon Ray Amar and Patricia Bertrand Amar of Baton Rouge. She was a 1983 graduate of Redemptorist High School and attended Louisiana State University. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Terri lived every day with glitz, glamour, and joy, living her life with an energy that touched everyone she met. If there was music playing, she was the first person on the dance floor ready to dance. If there was a chance to lift someone up, she was already there, cheering the loudest. She had a gift for helping others shine, often more excited about someone else’s success or happiness than her own. Whether it was through a warm smile, a kind word, or her unwavering generosity, she made life brighter for all who knew her.
She found adventure everywhere she went. She loved traveling the world with her husband, Carlos, and her closest friends, making memories in every corner and soaking in the beauty of new places around the world together. Closer to home, she never passed up a chance to go mudriding with the Mudbugs, laughing until her sides hurt and proving that joy is found in both the grand journeys and the messy, muddy ones. Her laughter was contagious, her hugs unforgettable, and her heart big enough to hold everyone she loved. She taught us all how to find joy in the little things and she never passed up a good song to listen to, any moment to dance, or spending time with the people who matter most—her family.
Terri is survived by her husband of 39 years, Carlos. In their marriage, God blessed them with two children: Joshua and Morgan. Joshua married Ahriane, and they brought her a loving grandchild, Matthew. Her family will forever carry her spirit in everything they do. Terri was greeted in Heaven by those preceding her, including her father Vernon Ray Amar and her grandparents Annette Virdure Bertrand, Oliver Bertrand, Bertha Bajoie Amar, and Zachary Amar.
A celebration of Terri’s fabulous life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lakeland, Louisiana. In true Terri fashion, we invite friends and family to wear shades of purple (her favorite color) or bright colors. Bring joyful memories to share and, of course, bring dancing shoes to dance.
Instead of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in her memory—because nothing would honor her more than spreading love the way she always did.
Though our hearts ache, we find comfort in knowing her light will never fade. She will live on in the laughter she inspired, the joy she shared, and the love she gave so freely. Her laughter, her light, and her love will remain forever in our hearts. She will be dearly missed by her family, countless friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
