Ruth Laura Worthington Bostic, 93, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, surrounded by family.
She was born September 13, 1924 In Bakewell, Tennessee to the late Samuel M. Worthington and Bernice Evert Sheeler Worthington.
She was educated in the Chattanooga and Athens, Tennessee schools and graduated with honors. She chose to forego her goals for further education when she met and married the love of her life, the late William Clarence Bostic, Sr. To that union one son, the late William Clarence Bostic, Jr. was first born, followed by two daughters, Ruth Ann and Janice Evert.
She was a lifelong and faithful member of the Presbyterian Church, joining at the age of 15 and continuing to worship and serve at Renaissance Presbyterian Church of the Westside. She enjoyed singing in the choir and adult bible study. Mother Bostic was an active member of Church Women United; served as secretary of the Riverside Neighborhood Association; member of the Avondale Senior Neighbors for many years and enjoyed the company of bingo buddies there. You could find her with her knitting needles crafting gifts for all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother (Theophilus S. Worthington) and son.
Survived by: Daughter Ruth Ann (Delbert) Bard and Daughter Janice Evert Gooden both of Chattanooga; Brother David Leon(Loretta) Worthington of Chicago, IL ; Sister-in-Law Jacqueline Worthington, of France; Daughter-in-Law L. Ann Bostic of Marvin, NC; Grandson Clarence LeBron Green of Oakland, CA; Granddaughter Alesia D. Green Jones of Pittsburg, CA ; Granddaughter E. Nicole (Al) Kennon of Waxhaw, NC; Granddaughter Lauren Kaye (Nikolas) Hill of Baltimore MD; one great granddaughter, Emma Ryane Kennon; three great grandsons, Elijah C. Jones, W. Nixon Hill and Tolly A. Kennon .
She will be sorely missed by a host of relatives, friends and extended family across the country. Mother Bostic, a 35 year breast cancer survivor, exemplified strong faith as she battled two times successfully against recurring cancers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions are made to the Youth Ministries and Literacy Programs of Renaissance Presbyterian Church or any organization that continues to fight for the cure of cancer.
Visitation will be held at Renaissance Church, Tuesday, August 28th from 6-7pm and on Wednesday, August 29th from 11:00 to 12noon. A Celebration of Life will be held from 12noon to 1pm at Renaissance Presbyterian Church, 1211 Boynton Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37402.
