OFFICIAL NOTICE OF TRANSITION: Mrs. Olivia Council Dunn, of Valdosta, GA.
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness, that we stand alongside the Dunn Family to announce the transition of:
Mrs. Olivia Marie Council Dunn, was born December 22, 1947, to the late Mr. James F. Council, Sr. and Mrs. Betty M. Council in Valdosta, GA. She made her heavenly transition Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
Olivia was baptized at an early age in the family church, Macedonia First Baptist Church. She attended Valdosta City Schools and graduated from Pinevale High School.
Olivia met the love of her life, Mr. James Robert Dunn, in 1971. They joined in holy matrimony on November 23,1973, in Valdosta and relocated to Knightdale, North Carolina. They were happily married and inseparable for 42 years and 10 months. While in North Carolina, Olivia received training in the field of physical therapy and was employed at Rex Memorial Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Olivia continued her Christian journey at Now Faith Community Baptist Church in Knightdale and was a faithful servant in the ministry. One of the many trials Olivia overcame was end stage renal disease. She was gifted more years on this earth through God’s grace and a kidney donation from the late Mr. Dusty Lee Moss in 2003. Through this gift of life, Olivia and Dusty’s mother, Mrs. Linda Nye, claimed and loved each other as family.
After the untimely passing of her beloved husband, Mr. James Robert Dunn, Olivia returned to her hometown where she quickly re-engaged with the community and continued her love of service. Olivia was a faithful servant at Macedonia First Baptist Church, where she served in any capacity needed, including founding the Nursing Home Ministry and participating in the Clothes Closet Ministry.
When Olivia was not serving others, she enjoyed traveling (especially to beaches) and spending quality time with her family. Olivia was an avid lover of gospel music and would routinely make a joyful noise unto the Lord! As she departed her earthly home, she made the journey listening to her favorite song, “I Trust in God,” and worshipping her Heavenly Father with her family.
Olivia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. James Robert Dunn; her Father, Mr. James F. Council, Sr.; Grandmother Mrs. Ola Mae Williams; and forever best friend Mrs. Florine Miles Justice.
Olivia leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Mrs. Betty M. Council of Valdosta, Georgia; brother, Attorney James F. Council, Jr. (Vivian) of Valdosta, Georgia; sisters, Ms. Arnell Council of Valdosta, Georgia; Mrs. Alma Council Brinson of Valdosta, Georgia and Mrs. Frederica Council Wytche (Xavier) of Macon, Georgia; niece/ Goddaughter, Attorney Marilyn Moss Carter of Albany, Georgia; nieces, Mrs. Dawn Montgomery (Cedric) of Valdosta, Georgia, Attorney Kimberly Council Sheridan (Attorney Mike) of Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Ashley Council of Valdosta, Georgia; and nephews, Mr. James “Jay” Council, III of Valdosta, Georgia, and Mr. Gary “GJ” Jones of Dublin, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Shirley Dunn of Sanford, North Carolina, Mrs. Lannie Seawell of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Mrs. Gladys Dunn of Forestville, North Carolina; Godchildren: Ms. Ulyssia Seawell of Raleigh, North Carolina; Mr. Albert “AJ” Dunn, Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina; Mr. Terence Carter and Mr. Kardi Carter of Atlanta, Georgia; God grandson Mr. Javarus Mozeak of Raleigh, North Carolina; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and neighbors The Rentz Family of Knightdale, North Carolina; The Terrell Family, The Moman/Dorminey Family and The Bickers Family of Valdosta, Georgia.

Heartfelt Condolences to the family of Olivia. I had the honor of calling Olivia my friend for many years. We met as co-workers at Rex Hospital and our bond went beyond the workplace. Even after she moved back to Valdosta, we stayed in touch with our phone calls and texts. She was my listening ear and my encourager thru life's ups and downs. Olivia will truly be missed.
