Funeral service for Dexter Jenkins, 53, of Augusta, GA, formerly Salem, AL, will be at 10:00 a.m. (CST), Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Pleasant Hill A.M.E. Church, 1147 Lee Road 140, Salem, AL, 36874. The interment follow at 12:30 p.m. (CST) in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 Highway 165, Ft. Mitchell, AL 36875, Reverend Richard Carter, Pastor, Reverend Loretta Fuller, Officiating and Reverend Debbie Dowdell, Eulogist.

Mr. Jenkins, who passed away Friday, April 5, 2024 in Hephzibah, GA, was born September 18, 1970, in Russell County, Alabama.

Public viewing will be Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. (CST). Family will be present from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (CST).

Mr. Jenkins will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.

He leaves to cherish his memory: four children, DeAnna Jenkins Harris of Opelika, AL, Dexter Jenkins II of San Antonio, TX, Christian Jenkins and Ethan Jenkins both of Chettisham, Ely, United Kingdom; parents, Eddie Jenkins and Ann Jenkins both of Salem, AL; grandson, Marcus Harris II of Opelika, AL; one sister, Amy (Dexter) Washington of Snellville, GA; one brother, Jamie Jenkins of Salem, AL; two nieces, Kiara Williams of Salem, AL and Savannah Jenkins of Dothan, AL; one nephew, Aijalon Williams of Sandy Springs, GA; two uncles, Lindsay Jenkins of Huntsville, AL and Artie (Gwen) Jenkins of Salem, AL; step-uncle, Auther Dee Shealey of Lafayette, AL; one aunt, Geraldine Jenkins of Fayetteville, GA, four great aunts, Kathy (Rudy) Brown of Smiths, AL, Doris Fears of Lanett, AL, Lou Jean Rudd and Johnnie Mae Jackson both of Columbus, GA; two special friends, Laurie Thomas of Smiths, AL and Jamie Roberson of Augusta, GA; special family friends, Rhonda Morris and Michael (Lynn) Summer both of Opelika, AL; a host of cousins and friends.

Rest In Heavenly Peace, Dexter, my former co-worker instructor and veteran at what was then Fort Gordon, GA. Dexter was a very good instructor who cared a lot about the soldiers that were in his care. Last saw Dexter on base at the service station looking sharp in his "correction officer" uniform.
