Funeral service for Emma Frederick, 80, of Bronx, NY, formerly of Opelika, AL, will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Harris Funeral Home Chapel, Reverend Michael Burton will officiate. (Facial covering is required).
Mrs. Frederick, who passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at the Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York, was born April 10, 1942 in Lee County, Alabama.
Public viewing will be Wednesday, December 28, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. β 6:00 p.m. (Facial covering is required).
She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Ondie Lorraine Frederick; one granddaughter, Anya Louise Curtis; one brother, Willie Johnson (Emilia Hernandez); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends in New York, Virginia, Alabama and beyond.
I met Mrs. Emma in Va Beach. We live in the same community. She brought so much joy into my family. She will be truly missed. Love Lionel & Patricia Johnson

December 13, 2022, Glorify God in your Life, that was the message on this day Emma went to be with the Lord. This how Emma lived her life, glorifying the Lord. Emma was my spiritual mother and my professional mentor. Emma , Ondie and Anya are so much of our family. We shared so many beautiful moments and events over the years. There was not a week that went by that I didn't receive a call from Emma, she always planted a seed in our conversations, choosing love, intention and giving God all the glory. She taught me about the scripture, obedience, listening with love and no judgement. I miss your sweet voice, weekly conversations and laughter. Romans 8:30 RESOLUTION From the District Grand United Order of Tents, a/k/a Southern District No.1 and the Virginia District, United Order of Tents, Joshua R. Giddings and Jollifee Union, Southern District No. 1. We pause with heavy hearts and express our sympathy to the family and loved ones of Sister Emma Louise Frederick. We will miss her affectionate smile. She was truly committed to the United Order of Tents and its objectives. We thank her family for the time she spent with us in Virginia Beach, even though she returned home to the Bronx, New York and, Whereas Sister Emma Louise Frederick united with the Queen of Princess Ann Tent #506 on May 13, 2009. Sister Regina Taylor recruited Sister Emma Frederick to join Queen of Princess Ann Tent #506. She was a faithful member of this Tent for a number of years. She took a brief absence before she returned to Queen of Princess Ann Tent #506 on February 16, 2020. Sister Emma Louise Frederick continued working with the Sisters of Queen of Princess Ann under the leadership of Deputy/Leader Brenda Reid. She participated in many of the fundraisers, such as winning the Miss Queen of Princess Ann during her first year. She was a progressive-minded Sister who wanted the best for the Order and her District, enlisting the support of her church ladies, and her family, and, Whereas Past Senior Matron Emma Louise Frederick was an active member of the Virginia Beach District during the years she lived in the area. She continued with the Sisters of her Tent to work together for the good of the Order. She worked on District projects under the direction of Deputy Brenda Reid. She was one of our "best" project workers, believing in the scripture in John 9th chapter, "I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day", and, Whereas Sister Frederick was a dedicated member of the North Carolina Council of Tents and was an active member of Southern District #1. She was committed to the work of our Order and was willing to help wherever needed. She served under President Lodies Jackson Gloston, who claimed her as "A Sister of Reason". We enjoyed her visiting and sharing her love, while in Virginia Beach and the Bronx, New York, and, Whereas a strong link in our chain has been broken; we must keep our chain tight in order to meet Sister Frederick when our name is called to that celestial tent above, and, Whereas a copy of this resolution be submitted to her family in memory of her dedicated service, to the Queen of Princess Ann Tent #506, the Virginia Beach District, and Southern District #1. NOW BE IT RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be placed in the archives of the United Order of Tents of Joshua R. Giddings & Jollifee Union, Southern District No. 1, Norfolk, Virginia. Thank you for your unconditional love and beautiful heart. I could not have asked for a greater mother than you. I am so grateful to have had you in my life for 53 years, and blessed that Anya has so many fond memories of you to cherish forever. You were the best grandmother ever, and she loves you dearly. You made us into the women that we are today. You have always been a woman of grace, and a Child of God. I promise to live my life to the fullest as you did, and continue to love Anya with all my heart, and will hold onto my faith and love for the Lord. Dearest Ondie, Anya, and Willie, You have my deepest condolences. I met Emma in 1978 at North Central Bronx Hospital. She was a sweet and kind ICU nurse and a hard worker. I was her secretary when she was Deputy Director of Nursing. I ask that God continue to comfort you during this time of bereavement. She will forever live in your hearts. I met my good friend, Emma in VA Beach, 2004. We lived in the same community. We immediately bonded I guess it was a Southern thing. She was a joy to be around, loved her family and church. Always looked forward to visiting AL and when I moved back to Atlanta she visited several times. Thanks to Ondie, Onya and Brother Willie for sharing Dear Emma with us.
