Obituary For James “Soup” Barnett

Funeral service for James Barnett, 69, of Salem, AL, will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Harris Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, 1409 Monroe Avenue, Opelika, AL, 36801, Reverend Johnny Freeman will officiate.

Mr. Barnett, who passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025 at his home in Salem, Alabama, was born December 11, 1955, in Lee County, Alabama.

Public viewing will be Friday, September 19, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

He leaves to cherish his memory: two children, Tamikka Hugley (Willie Moffett) and Christopher Hugley, Sr. both of Salem, AL; four grandchildren, Shantavious Hugley, Demetrious Hugley, Zynique Staples all of Salem, AL and Christopher Hugley, Jr. of Opelika, AL; a host of great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sara (Sylvester) Thomas, Laura Vann both of Salem, AL and Mary E. Barnett of Phenix City, AL; three brothers, Larry Barnett, Jerry Barnett both of Salem, AL and Dudley (Rina) Barnett of Russell County, AL; three uncles, Jason (Alicia) Moore of Columbus, GA, Roscoe Moore of Russell County, AL and Virgil Beasley of Virginia; devoted nephew, Sylvester Thomas of Salem, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
