Obituary For Jennie Lee Stephens "Mama Jennie" Shorter

Funeral service for “Mama Jennie” Shorter, 94, of Opelika, AL, will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Harris Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Reverend L.W. Booker will officiate.

Mrs. Shorter, who passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the East Alabama Medical Center-Lanier in Valley, Alabama, was born May 12, 1927, in Lee County, Alabama.

Public viewing for Mrs. Shorter will be Monday, July 5, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories and family legacy to her loving children: Jerelina Long (Benjamin) of Gastonia, NC, Lorenzo Jones (Patricia) of Opelika, AL, Joyce Houston (Walter) Rocky Mount, NC, and Kerry Wade Dexter (Sharon) of Opelika, AL; stepchildren, Clarence Shorter, Norman Shorter, and Lena Pearl Shorter Coleman all of Opelika, AL; three cousins, William Earl Kindred, Mary Ceola Thomas, and Alphonzo Stephens; grandchildren, Sonya Jones, Angela Heard Reed, Sanjia Ross, Bruce Long, Toscha Pomell (Garfield), Marcus Heard, Elvernardo Dexter (Christy), Rodrick Lotrez Jones, Tikelia Jenkins (McKinley), Jarrett Jones, Kieara Dexter (Ronda) and Kaysee Dexter; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; with a host of other family, church members and friends.
