Obituary For Jimmie Lou Baker
Funeral service for Jimmie Baker, 92, of Opelika, AL, will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 18, 2026, at Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 650 Jeter Avenue, Opelika, AL 36801 with interment in Garden Hills Cemetery, 1218 Frederick Road, Opelika, AL 36801, Reverend Clifford E. Jones will officiate.
Mrs. Baker, who passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at the Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama, was born December 21, 1933, in Lee County, Alabama.
Public viewing will be Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Mrs. Baker will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.
She leaves to cherish her legacy of many memories: four daughters, Belinda (Michael) Pink, Joann Baker, Gloria Baker and Geralene (Carl) Johnson all of Opelika, AL; one son, Michael (Dawn) Baker, Sr. of Mobile, AL; nineteen grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Willie (Marianne) Baker of Auburn, AL; three sisters-in-law, Patricia (Keith) Gibson of Jackson, TN, Vickey (Douglas) Foreman and Shirley Baker of Opelika, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Greater Peace Church Family.

To the family of Jimmy lou Baker. I was very saddened to hear about the passing of your mother and grandmother. I've known Jimmy lou for at least sixty years, in fact I think my grandfather preformed the ceremony for their wedding. I remember Geraldine, when they were living across the street from where Francine Burton now live. Your father and I were very good friends and we attended school together. She was a wonderful lady, along with her sister Dot Reed. May they all be reunited in heaven and be as one again 🙏. As Doctor Martin King said (Free at last Free at last Thank God almighty, she's free at last!!) Clarence Taylor and the girls.
