Obituary For John A. "Preston" Mitchell

Public Viewing for John Mitchell, 86, of Opelika, AL, will be Friday, May 7, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home.

Mr. Mitchell, who passed away Thursday, April 24, 2021 at Tallassee Health & Rehabilitation Center in Tallassee, Alabama, was born June 10, 1934 in Lee County, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by: his mother, Prince Ella Freeman Mitchell; wife, Velma Walton Mitchell; two daughters, Brenda Menifee Warren and Lesia Walton; son, David Love; two brothers, Willie James Carlisle and Weston Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell united with True Church of Christ Anointed Holiness Church Friendship under the leadership of Pastor Brenda Maddox.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Sarah Mitchell of Tallassee, AL; one brother, JB Mitchell of Opelika, AL; three sisters-in-law, Mozell Carlisle, Barbara Mitchell both of Opelika, AL and Myrtis Smith of Columbus, GA; brother-in-law, Bobby (Henrietta) Buckhannon of Opelika, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings when around people outside of their household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
