Obituary For Joseph Davis “Joe” Kindred, Sr.
Funeral service for Joseph Kindred, 80, of Opelika, AL, will be at 11:00 a.m. (CST)/12:00 noon (EST) Friday, January 13, 2023, at Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 650 Jeter Avenue, Opelika, AL 36801 with interment in Garden Hills Cemetery, Reverend Clifford E. Jones, Pastor and Reverend Arthur Thomas, Eulogist.
Mr. Kindred, who passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama, was born August 14, 1942, in Lee County, Alabama.
Public viewing will be Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Facial covering is required).
Mr. Kindred will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.
Precious memories will forever be cherished by: devoted wife of sixty years, Dessa Kindred of Opelika, AL; five children, Joseph “Rickey” Kindred, Jr., Vincent (Elaine) Kindred both of Opelika, AL, Dr. Rhonda (Yolonda) Kindred of Atlanta, GA, Jonina (Melvin) Kindred-Stringer of Birmingham, AL and Dr. Nicolas Kindred of Washington, DC; six grandchildren, Deja Heard, Joseph (D’Asia) Kindred, Shantel (Antonio) Gooden, Daniel Kindred all of Opelika, AL, Adrian Kindred of Atlanta, GA and Journi Kindred of Auburn, AL; eight great grandchildren; six brothers, Henry (Johnnie Mae) Clark, Emanuel (Alice) Shorter, Jasper Shorter, and Henry (Elouise) Shorter all of Opelika, AL, Lorenza (Wiltha) Haynes of Columbus, OH and Amos Hayes of Youngstown, OH; six sisters, June Sellers, Deloris Smith, Katie Hughley, and Geraldine (Joe) Tinsley all of Opelika, AL, Elizabeth Hodge of Columbus, OH, and Juanita Haynes of Cleveland, OH; four brothers-in-law, Avery Lee (Mary) Askew of Opelika, AL Ben (Kathy) Middlebrook of Atlanta, GA, Jimmie Lee Moore and Robert Baker; six sisters-in-law, Fannie Clark, Tina Peoples, Jennie Wilson, Katy Shorter all of Opelika, AL, Mary Lee Gray of Atlanta, GA and Love Malone of Columbus, GA. host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
