Funeral service for Judge Maddox, 96, of Opelika, AL, will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 23, 2026, at St. Mark A.M.E. Church, 4141 Lee Road 162, Opelika, AL, 36801 with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, 1409 Monroe Avenue, Opelika, AL, 36801, Reverend Jonathan Benton will officiate.
Mr. Maddox, who passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at his home in Opelika, Alabama, was born January 10, 1930, in Lee County, Alabama.
Public viewing will be Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. β 6:00 p.m. Family will be present to receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. β 6:00 p.m.
Mr. Maddox will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Alma Maddox of Opelika, AL; one son, Carnell (Terrie) Maddox, Sr. of Opelika, AL; one step-son, Hugh Baker of College Park, GA; daughter-in-law, Dionette Baker of Queens, NY; fifteen grandchildren, Glenda Baker, Nancy Haynes, Randy Haynes, JaMarcus Phillips (adopted grandchild) all of Opelika, AL, Gregory Baker, Trevor Baker of Queens, NY, Latisha Baker of Wilmington, DE, Veronica (Ronald) Goodman of Akron, OH, Tina Brewer, Kennethia Whiting, Nathaniel Brewer, Jr. all of Hopkins, SC, Romarlo (Kimberely) Maddox of Notasulga, AL, Michael Brandon Maddox of Montgomery, AL, Carnell Maddox, Jr. and Kera Maddox both of Salem, AL; seventeen great-grandchildren; thirty-one great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Hegler of Atlanta, GA; one sister-in-law, Fannie Thomas of Salem, AL, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
