Ms. Gardner, who passed away, Friday, August 11, 2023 at her home in Opelika, Alabama, was born December 11, 1997, in Montgomery, Alabama.
Public viewing will be Friday, August 25, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
At an early age, she confessed Christ and united with Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church in Salem, Alabama where she participated in many auxiliaries: the sunbeam ministry, praise dance ministry, a choir member, and the Junior Usher Board, where she greeted the congregation with her beautiful and angelic smile. Later, she united with The Kingdom Church under the leadership of Pastor Mario Brown, where she enjoyed church service and fellowshipping with the congregation, until God called her home.
Phajah graduated from Opelika High School Class of 2016. She was a majorette and played the clarinet, which she affectionately called “Clair,” in the Spirit of the South High School Marching Band. After high school graduation, she attended Auburn University at Montgomery for three years. She enjoyed spending time and having a good meal at different restaurants with her friends. She had a true passion for children, as she always wanted to teach, which led to her employment at The Growing Room. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor, which would keep people smiling and laughing. Phajah would light up any room that she entered and could lift your spirit just like the fluttering of a beautiful, joyful butterfly.
She leaves to cherish her memories: mother, Terra Gardner of Opelika, AL; grandparents, Ella Gardner and Janice (Brian) McDade both of Opelika, AL; great-grandparents, Bernice Thomas, Juanita Lyles both of Opelika, AL and Willie Marie Gardner of Lafayette, AL; three aunts, LaShonva Gardner, Brianna McDade both Opelika, AL and Dedra Gulley of Bessemer, AL; five great uncles, Larry (Sue) Thomas of Salem, AL, Anthony Lamar Lyles, Tommie (Mary) Jackson, John (Diane) Stinson all of Opelika, AL and Clarence (Belinda) Jones of Baltimore, MD; ten great aunts, Gaynell Thomas, Marilyn (Sammie) Floyd, Pinkie Mae Stinson, Thelma Holcey all of Opelika, AL, Era Gordon of Windfall, NC, Ruth Morgan, Ruby Carlisle both of Cleveland, OH, Annie Tarver of Baltimore, MD, Elease (Melvin) Askew of Charolette, NC and Estella (Charlie) Baker of Opa-locka, FL; great-great uncle, Silas Stevens of Buffalo, NY; one cousin as a sister, Keirra D’Andria Farrow of Opelika, AL; a host of other relatives and friends.
