Funeral service for Reverend Dr. David L. Core, Sr. , 78, of Cusseta, AL, will be at 11:00 a.m. (CST), Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 650 Jeter Avenue, Opelika, AL, 36801 with interment in Garden Hills Cemetery, 1218 Frederick Road, Opelika, AL, 36801, Reverend Clifford E. Jones, Pastor and Officiating, Reverend Frank Kennedy, Jr., Eulogist.
Dr. Core, who passed away Monday, September 1, 2025 at Arbor Springs Health and Rehab in Opelika, Alabama was born December 19, 1946, in West Point, Georgia.
Public viewing will be Friday, September 5, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Dr. Core will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory: wife, Emma Jean Core of Cusseta, AL; a daughter, Stephanie (Dean) Brock of Cusseta, AL; four grandchildren, O’Khari Moore, E’Miya Moore both of Cusseta, AL, Sierra Core and Shonteria Core both of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Fannie King and Patricia (John) Williams both of Opelika, AL; five brothers, Robert Lyons, Jerry Core both of Augusta, GA, Jessie (Molly) Core of Alexander City, AL, Johnny (Ollivette) Core of Tuskegee, AL and Arthur (Mae Pearl) Core of Opelika, AL; four aunts, Gladys Freelon of Chicago, IL, Joyce Upshaw of Salem, AL, Frances Kimber of Phenix City, AL and Betty Jones of Atlanta, GA ; four sisters-in-law, Diane Burton, Lisa Jordan both of Opelika, AL, Tonia Cochran of Salem, AL and Cathy (Craig) Shannon of Newnan, GA; one brother-in-law, Wiley (Marilyn) Cochran, Jr. of Opelika, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

I was so saddened to just hear of the passing of Pastor David Core. He was such a loving and wise Pastor. He made an enormous impact in a short period. I offer our deepest sympathy to Sis. Core and family. We are praying for you. Much love to all of you.
