Funeral service for Walter Ashford, 73, of Opelika, Alabama, will be at 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Christ Temple Holiness Church, 610 Clanton Street, Opelika, AL 36801 with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Bishop Kenneth Carter will officiate.
Mr. Ashford, who passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama, was born June 27, 1948, in Lee County, Alabama.
Public viewing will be Friday, March 11, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Facial covering is required)
Mr. Ashford will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.
“Bubba”, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, graduated from Wacoochee High School Class of 1967 in Salem, Alabama. He served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed watching westerns. Walter was employed with the City of Opelika for many years as a truck driver. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, church member and friend.
He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Gloria Ashford of Opelika, AL; four children, Pamela Jones Dorsey (Hermal) Hubbard, Tromon (Tina) Smith both of Valley, AL, Michael Jones (Ashanti Johnson) and Roderick (Jaquice) Smith both of Opelika, AL; ten grandchildren, Dakarrio Henry, Marquavious Jones, Mikayla Jones, Mikel Jones, Ahriyah Jones, Jaquavious (Ashley) Bryant, Amarkeion Smith, Raderkius Smith, Conner Smith and Royalty Smith; one sister, Lucy Ashford of Opelika, AL; two aunts, Jimmie Lou Baker and Bedell Weather both of Opelika, AL; father-in-law, AC (Fletcher) Harris of Union Springs, AL; mother-in-law, Sarah Taylor of Opelika, AL; two sisters-in-law, Mamie Taylor of Opelika, AL and Willie Ann Bedgood of Mobile, AL; four brothers-in-law, James (Kamika) Taylor, Phillip (Mary) Harris, Jesse (Carla) Taylor all of Opelika, AL and Jesse Harris of Montgomery, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
