Obituary For Wayne Bernard Gibson
Funeral service for Wayne Gibson, 66, of Opelika, AL, will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 4420 Oak Bowery Road, Opelika, AL 36801 with interment in the church cemetery, Reverend L.W. Myers, Jr. will officiate.
Mr. Gibson, who passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL, was born February 14, 1957 in Lee County, Alabama.
Public viewing will be Friday, April 7, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Family will be present to receive guest from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. (Facial covering is required)
Mr. Gibson will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his faithful and loving wife, Mattie Gibson; two daughters, Felicia (Zanman) Graham of Louisville, KY and Michelle Gibson of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Carolyn Finley and Alva McKenzie, both of Opelika, AL; two brothers, Eugene Gibson of Opelika, AL and Jacob (Janice) Hodge of Atlanta, GA; four aunts, Mary Ann Thornton of Atlanta, GA, Mary Lillie Thornton of Opelika, AL, Patricia McGuire of Decatur, GA, and Christine Thornton of Rex, GA; three grandchildren ZJ Graham, Taylor Graham and Tristan Graham all of Louisville, KY; five brothers-in-law, Melvin Strickland of Dayton, OH, Bruce (Debra) Strickland of Deltona, FL, Sammie (Mary) Strickland, Wayne Strickland, and Phil Strickland all of Waverly, AL; two sisters-in-laws, Annie (Keith) Torbert of Opelika, AL and Tracie Strickland of Atlanta, GA; a special friend, Charles Finley of Auburn, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A special recognition goes to a devoted niece and caregiver, Rachel Finley of Opelika, AL.
