Mattie Ilisa Mahone December 21, 1951 - July 8, 2021

Columbus, Georgia - Mattie Ilisa Mahone was born December 21, 1951, in Waverly Hall, Georgia to the late Herman and Leila Thomason Carnes. She departed this life on July 8, 2021. Funeral services will be 12:30PM Friday, July 16, 2021 in the chapel at Hill-Watson-People's Funeral Service LLC, 1605 3rd Avenue, Columbus, 706-327-9293 with Reverend Jeffer Howard, officiating. Interment will follow at Ft Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 Hwy 165, Ft Mitchell, AL. "Lisa", as she preferred to be called, was married to the late Jerome Mahone, they had one daughter, Nicole Mahone, who lovingly provided in-home hospice to her mother during the last weeks of her life. Lisa leaves behind one grandchild whom she loved dearly, Alena. Lisa attended various schools but much of her education was in the Harris County School System. She attended Lucy Laney Elementary and graduated from Carver High School in 1969. Lisa attended Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, GA and earned her nursing degree. During her nursing career, she worked as an RN at local hospitals and facilities. She is survived by other than her daughter and grandchild her sisters, Esther Viles (Mike) of Jacksonville, IL, and Cynthia Jones (James) Atlanta, GA, and a brother, SFC (Ret) James Carnes (Lavoxkeia), Houston, TX (her other brother, Herman Carnes, preceded her in death), and sister-in-law, Bertha Carnes; god sister, Bessie Spratling; uncle, Walter Great, Quincy, FL; aunt, Dorothy Brown, Columbus, GA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
