Ms. Sonya Lachelle Buford Thompson, 54, was born on Monday, February 26, 1968 and departed this life on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
Memorial service will be held at Faith Center Church, 102 Federal St., Bluefield, West Virginia, 24701, on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
Masks are to be worn and social distancing required at all meetings with family and friends.

Sonya and I started working at NCDOI at the same time in 1999. From the start, She showed kindness, competence, and professionalism. We connected further through laughter and stories about WV. Such a beautiful spirit, truly caring person, good friend. I continue to think I'm going to call Sonya for some heart to heart talks and good advice ... now I'll have to tune her in a bit differently and remember her dearly. I'll never forget the day she came to interview at UNC Family Medicine when she was pregnant with Zoe who is now a beautiful competent young woman. Sonya was always professional and very competent at work. very much missed and always remembered.
I have worked with Sonya for about 20 years. She was such a joy to be around and will be truely missed. Such a lovely person, life cut too short.
