Daddy, I'm still speechless or short on words. I just knew that you would be around forever! I don't think I ever told you, but you are my hero. Your very presence inspired me to do big and great things. I'm going to miss hearing, "Nikka, this is your dad, how about giving me a call so I can know what you and the munchkins are up to." You told us you were tired and deep down inside I'm sure you felt as though you couldn't do the things you enjoyed or wanted to do, so eternal rest would be best. I know I'll understand it one day. Until then, I'll hold tight to the memories. You've earned this rest, my hero! I love you! #HeadEmUpMoveEmOut
Cousin Charles always had a beautiful smil and kind words to share
Daddy thank you for being you. Thank you for being the best dad anyone could ask for. Your presence is missed. But I will listen to your voicemails often. No more pain. Rest peacefully Daddy/Papa
To The Family: My thoughts are with you at this time.He was a Good Family Man! Much love to all. Rest in peace Victor&Linda Jones
I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the Hankerson & Fonge families. I came to know the Hankerson family through his son-in-law Toby. I fondly addressed him as Grandpa; he was truly Grandpa in every sense of the word. He was passionate about military service and the benefits of being part of that brotherhood. Caleb and I always looked forward to spending time with the family whenever they came up to Cumming or when we visited Kissimmee. I know Jaida, Jordan and their cousins in Miami miss their Grandpa. He touched a lot of lives. All I can say is..."Grandpa, go rest!" Shalom!
Tribute to Mr. Charles Henderson
It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Mr. Charles Henderson.
Although I never had the privilege of meeting him personally, I have heard countless wonderful stories about the remarkable man he was through my elder brother,Tobias. Those stories painted the picture of a man of integrity, strength, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family and country. His service as a veteran of the U.S. Army speaks to a life marked by courage, sacrifice, and commitment.
I have also come to appreciate his legacy through his daughter, Nadia. Her kindness, resilience, and character are a testament to the values he instilled in her and the example he set throughout his life.
May his life of service and love continue to inspire all who knew him. May God grant him eternal rest, comfort Nadia, my brother, and the entire Henderson family during this difficult time, and give them the strength and peace to cherish the many precious memories they shared.
Rest in eternal peace, Mr. Charles Henderson. Your legacy lives on in the lives you touched and in the family you so faithfully nurtured.
From Dr. Marinus Fonge
I was privileged to enjoy Mr Hankerson's company in the summer of 2018 and 2019. One of the first things that struck me was how much he thought of and had a deep affection for Mboh Tobias. It just happened that I had some old photos I hsd travelled with when I first met him. There were three of us in the first photo, whereupon I started elaborating. But I noticed how his face lit up when I got to "Tobi." So, I took my cue from that and on the second photo I shelved my little history and just pointed. "Is that Tobi," he asked with almost undisguised enthusiasm. "Yes, that is Tobi right there," I responded with my best impression of trying to match his child-like wonder. "Really?" Now that we were suitably acquainted, he found out that we were visiting Walt Disney studios that day and immediately offered to take us there in his shiny pick-up truck. He clearly loved cars and took time to look after them. This would be a drive of about an hour, and yet he gave me his card so that I could call him when we were done. He waved away my feeble protestations and the matter was settled. His card stated simply "Charles Hankerson" followed by a phone number. There was no hint of his life story, including being a veteran of two tours to Vietnam, details of which he regaled us with during the drive with precise facts, dates and details. Of course, he invited us to come round on another day so that he could show us round the purpose-built retirement village where they lived. On the appointed day he gave us a tour of the house, including the back from which supposedly you could see an alligator on a good day in the pond that was just yards away. Still, I sensed that he was itching to get us to the garage where lay his his pride and joy, the green Corvette car of 1972 vintage of which Mboh Tobias had tokd me so much about. Of course, I pretended not to have any foreknowledge and pressed him so that he could wax lyrical about his prowess as a seasoned mechanic and how he had looked after the car over the years. Rain was in the air, so he decided that our grand tour of the village would not be in one of those custom-made golf buggies but in a car. The highlight of the drive was when we arrived at a spot dedicated to US battle-worn and battle-hardened veterans that seemed to mean a lot to him. Thankfully, the light rain had fizzled off by the time we got there and we were able to get out of the car and appreciate some of the stories and histories of that spot. All together, I came away from that whole trip with a profound sense of gratitude for the unfirgettable and enriching moments I had spent in Mr Hankerson's company. Rest well, good Sir!
