Eddie James Weaver, age 87, of Haines City, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026,
surrounded by his devoted wife and family. His life was a testament to faith, perseverance, and the
quiet strength of a man who dedicated himself to hard work, family, and community.
Eddie was born on August 18, 1938, in Thompson, Alabama, to the late Tommie Lee Weaver and
Rosie B. Baskin. Raised in the rural traditions of the South, Eddie learned the value of discipline and
responsibility at an early age while working alongside his family on their farm in Alabama. Those
early years shaped his character and instilled in him a lifelong commitment to honest labor and
helping others.
As a young man seeking opportunity, Eddie moved to Central Florida, where he began building a life
and legacy for his family. Over the years, he worked in the citrus industry and later in a pipe
foundry before ultimately beginning a long and respected career with Seaboard Coastline Railroad.
As a railman, Eddie labored faithfully for many years, helping keep the rail lines moving that
connected communities throughout the region. His coworkers and family alike admired his
reliability, strong work ethic, and determination to provide for those he loved.
Outside of work, Eddie was known throughout his neighborhood as a generous and dependable
man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether it was mowing a widow’s yard,
assisting a neighbor with repairs, or simply offering a friendly conversation, Eddie believed
strongly in looking out for others. Acts of kindness came naturally to him, and many people in the
community benefited from his quiet generosity.
In his leisure time, Eddie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved watching professional
wrestling, classic western movies, and the popular courtroom shows that filled his afternoons.
Those who knew him best often laughed at how intently he followed the television judges and
wrestlers, always ready with a comment or opinion about what should happen next. Eddie had a
warm personality and a welcoming spirit. It was often said that he never met a stranger. Whether
in the neighborhood, at church, or during everyday errands, he easily struck up conversations and
formed friendships that lasted for years.
Faith was also an important part of Eddie’s life. He was a faithful member of New Mt. Zion
Missionary Baptist Church, where he attended services regularly until his health began to decline.
His belief in God sustained him throughout life’s many seasons and provided comfort to his family
in his final days.
At the center of Eddie’s life was his family. He shared 69 years of marriage with the love of his life,
Zelma Weaver, a remarkable partnership built on devotion, faith, and mutual respect. Together
they raised a family grounded in strong values, love, and perseverance. Eddie took great pride inwatching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and thrive.
Eddie is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Zelma Weaver; mother, Mattie “MeMaw” Weaver;
and his three children: Curtis (Roniece) Weaver, Eddie (Provita) Weaver II, and Sakina (Joel)
Weaver-Mack. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren (Candace (Austin), Curtis II,
Brittany, Zachary (Rheshema), Connor, Caimille, Austin (Daijah), and Tavis) ; and a cherished great-
grandfather to five great grandchildren (Zana, Zuri, Ziya,Chandler, and Kaydence)—each of whom
brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his siblings: R.J. Weaver, Grady (Jean) Weaver, Eular Cameron, Mattie
(Thurnal) Townsend, John Weaver, Charles (Ethel)Weaver, Beverly (Alfornia) Sneed, Denise
Weaver-King, and Laverne Weaver, along with a large extended family of cousins, nieces,
nephews, and lifelong friends who will continue to honor his memory.
Eddie was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Charlie and Eular Weaver, his parents
Tommie Lee Weaver and Rosie B. Baskin, Micheal Weaver (son) and his siblings Ella Weaver,
Charlie Weaver, Thomas (Nell) Weaver, Mattie Weaver-Morgan, and Lillie Weaver.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find
rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
