Joseph Leroy Porter, Jr. was born June 3, 1941 in New Iberia, Louisiana to Joseph Porter, Sr. and Willie Mae Porter. He died Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at the age of 84 years in Lake Wales, Florida. He was a loving father and devoted husband to his wife and children in all aspects of their lives. Survivors include his wife, Lynne Porter; his six children, Julie Porter Lewis, Orlando Porter, Kenneth Porter (Lisa), Michael Porter (Pamela), Andre' Porter (Paula) and Chekesha Porter; three step-children, Kenyatta Toles Williams (Tyris), Kenyan Toles (Tonya) and Kendal Toles; eighteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a sister, Starlene Porter Evans (Myron) and brothers, Vernon Porter (Janet) and Lawrence Hynson (Billie). Joe is preceded in death by his mother, father, maternal and paternal grandparents and three siblings, Vaughn Porter, Michael Porter and Archie Porter.
Joe's work career spanned 45 years with Texaco Exploration and Production Co. Inc., and Chevron U.S.A. Inc. in New Orleans, LA.
Many loving and lasting friendships were made and nurtured over those years.
He enjoyed and happily fullfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a full-time RVer. He and his wife, Lynne travelled 48 states of the continental United States, Canada and Mexico with family and friends as members of (NAARVA) the National African American RV Association, Louisiana Gators Camping, and Texas Sojourners RV club.
