Anthony Allen "Pokey" Hammonds
Brother Anthony Allen “Pokey” Hammonds, son to the late Charles Edward Bennett and Rosa Lee Bennett was born on August 15, 1962 in Dothan, Alabama.
He received his form of education from the Dale County School System and was a graduate of Ashford University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. At an early age, he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and became an active member of Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church and later served as an usher.
Brother Hammonds departed this life on January 5th, 2023 at his home. He was proceeded in death by his father, Charles Edward Bennett and sister, Marilyn Bennett.
His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his loving surviving family members; his devoted wife: Carol Hammonds; his caring mother, Rosa Lee Bennett; two loving daughters, Jessica Hammonds and Sharika (Keia) Briscoe; four adoring sisters, Sandra (Greg) Branch, Angela (John) Merritt, Denise Collins, and Michelle Irvin; one brother, Michael Faggs; two God-sisters, Darlene (Jerald) Long and Tiffany Bouie; one sister-in-law, Shelfonie (Sebastian) Davis; five grandchildren; Michael Lampkin, Z’liyah Lampkin, Nehemiah Higgs, Nariyah Dawkins, and Tatum Jackson; special nieces and nephews, Dawn Wilson, Bershita Dickens (Chris Jones), Billy Dickens, Jonathan Bennett, Machelia Brantley, Joneshia Bennett (Tyreek Granger), Briana Dickens, Tynikki (Timothy) Andrews, Vantashia Foster, and Stephanie Evans. He is also survived by special cousins: Anthony Wesley, Jacob Taylor, Terry Carroll, and Pastor Johnny Carroll. Also a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Interment was held following the services at Greater Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery Midland City, Alabama
