Mrs. Betty Jean Jones
Betty Jean Hammonds was born on January 12, 1939, to the late Mollie (Culver) and Raymond Hammonds in Midland City, Alabama. She attended Pinckard High School in her early years.
On May 25, 1974, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Hubert Jones and became a stay-at-home mom after moving to Kokomo, IN where they remained until November 2000 when they retired and moved to Midland City, AL. They were married for 39 years.
She was previously a member of Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church after having rejoined in 2000, before moving her membership back to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church which has always been her home church. She served as a Missionary President, Deaconess President, Sunday School Teacher, and also sang in the choir.
She departed this life on Monday, January 31, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Jones; parents, Raymond and Mollie Hammonds; son, Ansel Lee Doster, Jr; sisters, Rosa Mae Lemons, Ora Helms, Annie Jean Hammonds, Juanita Carroll; brothers, Arthur Hammonds, Raymond (Bobo) Hammonds, Jr., Issiac (Ike) Hammonds, Johnny C. Hammonds, Elijah Hammonds; granddaughter, Tameika Doster; nephews, Gregory Wesson, Anthony Hammonds, Great-nephew, Isaiah Juwan Stoddart and her best friend of many years, Nellie Marie George.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Ray Lee Doster, Eufaula, AL; Mollie Allen, Midland City, AL; Jacqueline (B.J.) Helms, Dothan, AL; Johnny (Shannon) Doster, Kokomo, IN; Michelle (Steven Lee) Doster, Midland City, AL. Sisters, Maudie (Essie) Wesson, Dothan, AL, Louise Hammonds, Newark, NJ; brothers-in-law, Leonard (Cheryl) Jones, Gainesville, FL, Arthur Jones, Detroit, MI; grandchildren: Jeremy Doster, Larinda Donnell, Jada Donnell, Nicole Denise Bowick, Danielle Helms, Vanessa Bowick, Adonis Doster, Brandon Mecham, Jasmine Doster, Indiya Jones, and David Jones, Jr., and best friend/cousin, Doris Howard. She will be missed by her 13 great-grandchildren, a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Midland City, AL. Interment will follow at New Hope Church Cemetery in Midland City, AL.
Per CDC regulations, face masks were worn and social distancing (maintaining 6 feet apart from one another) was practiced.
