Charles Terry Powe
Charlie Terry Powe was born on July 20, 1933 in Dothan, Alabama to Ms. Alice Powe At an early age, he became a member of St. Peter Community Church where he served faithfully as a deacon.
He was a life long resident of Dothan. In his younger days, he was a full time farmer for years. Charlie was employed with Dolly Madison Industries until it closed. His other employment was Charles Manufacturing, E.E. Bentley Insulation, Rebwood Furniture. He was also employed with Dothan City Schools as Head Custodian at Girard Middle School until he retired in 1995.
Charlie’s passion was landscaping and gardening. He had his own lawncare business and worked hard at it until his health started to fail.
Mr. Powe departed this life on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his mother Ms. Alice Powe, one son, Brad Powe, brothers Roland Williams, David Mathis, Robert Powe and a sister Gilane Cross.
He is survived by his children, JoAnn Long, Brenda Ward, Wanda Powe, Mary Brown all of Dothan, AL; Charlie (Shirley) Powe, Defuniak Springs, FL; Maurice (Lisa) Washington, D.C. and Sharon Powe (Marion) Riley, Lansing, MI and one step son, Kelvin (Kim) Thomas of Huntsville, AL. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren. A sister, Mary Moore, Dothan, AL; two brothers, Willie D. (Willie Mae) Powe, Dothan, AL and Lee Edward (Rose) Powe, Montgomery, AL; and one sister-in-law, Virginia Powe.
A Special thanks and recognition to his granddaughter Kalifia Bell Thomas who was attentive to his needs and his care at Westside Terrace; and a very special thanks to Addie (Ruth) Powe for all of her love and support.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Community Church, 241 Marshall Road, Dothan, AL with Pastor Leroy McLeroy officiating.
