Daryl Lawrence Wilson

Daryl, affectionately known as “POKEY” was born March 14, 1960, to Rev. Fred Lee and Mildred Wilson, in Donaldsonville, Georgia.

Daryl attended elementary school in Columbia, AL. He graduated from Ashford High School in 1978. Daryl Wilson received Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. As a member of Saint Mary Baptist Church, he served as Chair of Deacons, Youth Department Director, Transportation Coordinator, Finance Committee Member, President of Laymen’s Department as well as a member of the Male Chorus.

Deacon Daryl served as a Councilman for the Town of Gordon. He was employed as a foreman at Georgia Tubing for many years before retiring.

Many of you know Daryl as a giver. Every Mother’s Day, he would gift each mother with a special gift. Each Christmas, he hosted the Annual Senior Citizen’s Banquets in Gordon. According to 2 Corinthians 9:7 God loves a cheerful giver. As a Christian, Daryl did as the Bible mandated by visiting the sick as shut-in. Charity best described the heart of Daryl as he showed love, support, and monetary gifts unselfishly.

In the early morning of Sunday, July 9, 2023, The Lord called Daryl home to his eternal resting place. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Rev. Fred Lee Wilson, Sr. and the late Mildred Louise Wilson; daughter, Shaneka “Shay” Wilson, and brother, Keith LaShaun Wilson.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his son, Durrell LaShaun Wilson; a loving companion, Lorra Ann Thomas, brothers; Fred L. (Priscilla) Wilson Jr.; Gregory Wilson; Delrick Wilson, Kym (Carla) Gordon, AL; sisters Tonya Powe, Pansey, AL; Cassandra (Larry) Temple, Ormond Beach, FL and Chronda Nicholas, Gainesville, FL; a special aunt, Doris Wade, Pansey, AL. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Horace Williams Mortuary, 1457 E. Main St., Dothan, AL.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11 a.m.at Saint Mary Baptist Church, 161 Saint Mary Road, Gordon, AL. Interment followed at Saint Mary Baptist Church Cemetery.
