Shirley Lou Ayres Childress age 89 passed away on Saturday September 12, 2026 at
her home. She was wonderful caring person that lived life to the fullest. She was born in Buckingham and moved to Farmville after her marriage to Elijah Childress, Sr. She had one son, Elijah who preceded her in death. She was a devoted mother and was seen caring for him, even to the point of hauling him around in a red wagon as she went to various jobs. She touched so many families in the Farmville area either by working for them or caring for them.

She was devoted to sending cards for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays to so many people. All from memory! She loved to eat as long as it wasn't seafood or chitlins! Her favorite was a foot long hot dog with everything on it. The messier it was the better. She also enjoyed a good steak on Fridays. She also found
delight in challenging anyone to a Chinese checkers game. She loved the Lord and
would attend church most every Sunday. In recent years, she would go to the Farmville
United Methodist church and then to Jericho, Beulah AME or the Baptist church. Her church family knew and loved seeing her each Sunday. Her home church was Zion Baptist Church in Buckingham but she was not able to attend often.
