Mrs. Oxendine Battle was like a second Mother to my sister and me during our childhood years. So much of what I learned in life came from her instructions; especially my great love of reading! Thank you Pat and Rick for sharing her with us. To the family we send our deepest and sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved. RIP GRAND LADY

You all are in my thoughts and prayers. Words won't ease your pain in this difficult time, but know that, Joy Will Come, when you look back on the memories, talks, walks, laughter, the fellowships and knowing that one of these days, you'll be together again. Be strong Sis. Cullen. God is With You. π
To the family of Mary Elizabeth Battle (aka - Miss Oxendine in school), we send our prayers, condolences, and God's strength to you during this time of the transition of this god-fearing woman.
Her legacy is rich and impeccable for the contributions that she made to the lives of so many of her students in the public school system.
Mrs. Battle was my first school teacher. She taught me in the Nash County Publica Systems (South Nash Elementary, Spring Hope, NC in 1955-56).
Sixty-one years later, I was privileged to become her pastor at the Mount Zion First Baptist Church, 320 West Thomas, Rocky Mount, NC. I am privileged to have crossed her path.
Blessing, Peace, and Joy, Drs. Joseph & Steppi Rogers
