A Celebration of Life Homegoing Service for Elder Shellie Truss will be held Friday, August 18, 2023. The viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m. and Service will be held at 12:00 noon at Cathedral of Faith Church, 6304 N. 30th Street, Tampa, FL 33610, Apostle J. H. Howell, Pastor, Officiating, Dr. E.Q. Truss Eulogist. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery Tampa.
Elder Shellie D. Truss was born March 8, 1934, in Anniston, AL to the Late Gary Truss and Muriel Truss. At a young age, the family moved with his mother and siblings from Alabama to Middletown, OH. The oldest of nine siblings, he spent his early years attending the Butler County School System. He spent his college days at Clark College where he received a degree in Mathematics. While attending college, he met Irma A. Allen, and they were married in June 1955. Four children were born to this union: Eric Q., Sidney D., Rhonda M., and Cecelia O Truss. Shellie worked as a Longshoreman for more than thirty-five before retiring. He began preaching in 1988 and he was later ordained by a council of preachers, one of whom was his son, Dr. E.Q. Truss. He later founded and pastored and CEO of Bethel Christian Center Inc where he served until his death.
He was preceded in death by Irma A. Truss (Wife), Sidney D. Truss (Son), Cecelia O. Daniels (Daughter), his sister, Elosie (Truss) McGowan, and brother, Lee Arthur Truss, and Joseph “Joe” Truss. Pastor Truss also served and played golf at Rogers Park Golf Course and Club. He was well known among his golfing associates who admired him and were his loyal friend and competitor on the course. Pastor Truss impacted many lives while serving as a pastor of Bethel Christian Center. He was a close friend to and never a stranger to those he witnessed to on the streets when he introduced them to Christ.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his son Dr. Eric Q (Glenda) Truss, and daughter Rhonda M. (Michael) Nelson-Moultrie, and Grandchildren: LaToshia Williams, Tiffany Truss, Alonna (Brian) Adams, Celecia Truss, Chreshena Truss, and Alexis (Horace) Parker, Shawn D. Daniels, James A. Truss, Michael D. Truss, Rodney Jones Jr. Great grandchildren Rodderick (Nicole) Davenport Jr., Eugene III, Julian, Irman, and Sidney Williams. Alexander, Kendrick, Gracie Allen. Preston Parker, Jalyssa, Angel, Shawn Jr. Yasmin, Giovanni, Israel Daniels. SiNiyah Stewart, Trinity, Jaxson, Jontre, Michael Jr., Anastassia, Justin Truss, Brianna, Talia, and BriAja Adams. Great-Great grandchildren Roderick III and Gabriella Davenport. Three Brothers: Harry (Lois Jean) Truss, Middletown, OH, Charles (Michelle) Truss, Seattle WA, Leroy Truss. Two Sisters: Pallie Smith, Middletown OH, Gary (Danny) Lunsford, Seattle, WA. Two Sisters-in-Law, Francis Louise Truss (Joe), Middletown OH, Thelma Truss, (Lee Arthur). Texarkana, TX and Ruby Allen Highland Park, IL. A host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Special Friends. He cherished his church family at Bethel Christian Center.
