Well, my friend, it's time to say, "Goodbye, for now. I'll see you later". This is the hardest one by far to write. We were friends longer than I knew my first and second parents. I felt you supporting me even though you weren't near. There are so many memories I'm bursting to tell but we don't have the space or time. Some are happy, some sad, some of dedicated friendship, but some downright comical. Happy ones: Marching in the Howard Hustling Tiger 100 + Band at the Peach Bowl, Football games, and many band competitions; schoolmates; college friends mentoring kids; parties; BSA plays, Choir, Dance Group; my dance partner, college graduation. Later being in the same Leadership Chattanooga Cohort. Sad: The loss of parents, Littleton Mason, separation after college. Dedicated friendship: Traveling with me to New York to bring my car back. Even though I drove the entire way, I enjoyed the company. But most of all making sure I was all right. Comical: Cheerleader fire drills, playing games and the announcer thinking it's a skit, you forgetting to catch me but catching the play on the field, cheering on a car dealer's lot while waiting for Sharon's dad, and all of our shenanigans with Chip and Charlie. Ad hoc cheers and stunts no matter where we were. The trips to games, finding fun in all we did. These things will only have meaning for a few of us. The amazing thing about you is that you never let grass grow under our feet. You were always moving forward, trying to improve and grow. You set a very good example. I say my progress was because of people like you who always encouraged, prodded, had greater expectations for me than I did myself. I thank you for being one of those who cared enough to have faith in me, supported me in all I did, and pushed me to be my best. I admired your love for your family and your compassion for others. If one looked up true friend in Webster's, your name would be there. My nother brother, I hate we didn't have our one last chance to see each other. I hope you knew that I loved you as if we were the same womb. You truly left your mark, not only on me, but many others. I know God truly loves me because he sent you to help me when I needed someone most. I know Trevor is missing you as well as Joan and many others. I pray they find solace in good memories of you. I pray that God's Word sustains them. See ya later! Your eternal cheering partner, Frances Brewer Scruggs

Fred is my Daddy and this is so hard for me. I have such fond memories (invading my mind) of the times that we spent together during my childhood...it was the greatest, so to talk about one memory is hard, when there were so many. And, though, things were not the best as I got older and we lost some time, all the great memories outweigh all of that. I love you Daddy and I know for certain that you love me, so nothing else matters. Thank you for the life I have, and for the memories to cherish. You are forever my Dad, in heart, mind and spirit. I love you Daddy and I'll see you one day on the other side.

May the love of friends and family carry you thru your grief-- Tucker Baptist, as well.

Laretta Harrison

I grew up in Tucker Baptist Church with"Butch". He was a Loving person and always had a smile. We use to sing together and when he felt the song it was over. I remember him Singing. It was the Holy Ghost. He sung that song. To the family, You all have my Deepest Condolences. Praying

My memories of Fred extend many years back to 1976 when we met for the first time...often saw him cheering at UTC games but never had any idea that one day he would be my husband and eventually the Father of our children. I could extend so many cherished moments here but there's just too many....so I'll only mention a few...the day we married and you let a soup can explode on the stove leaving the white kitchen in a mess, our wedding, buying our first home together, bringing our children home, when you almost left the road after Jackie called you DaDa for the first time, the pacifier ceremony on the river for Juliene, dancing with you, listening to you sing at Tucker Baptist, your first Sermon, the many events with the kids, your love for my parents and family, Christmas with the kids and "all the nephews, nieces and Godchildren", when you assisted in baptising 3 of your Grandchildren, spending the last 4 Christmas seasons with all of us, your love for Community, and especially your love and passion for God. I could go on, but you know all the rest, and so do our children. Thanks for being such an influence in our lives and those of all you touched. I am grateful and blessed to have had you in my life and the lives of our Children and Grandchildren. We wanted you here but God needed you more. Keep looking upon us each day, as we keep you in our hearts forever. Much love for you always

I can't express how much Fred meant to me over the years. He always brought so much light into the lives of those around him. When you speak of him, speak not with tears, for thoughts of him should not be sad. Let memories of the times you shared give you comfort, for his life was rich because of all of us.

My condolences to all who loved him. Celestine Thomas Walton

Grand dad, you was a great person, someone I really loved and someone who always tried to guide me. Uncle Fred was married to my Aunt Ladana. My fondest memory of him as a young boy was him taking us all to school. He called it the OLPH express. Me, Jay, Jackie, Sean all piles into a chevette hatchback. We would laugh the whole way there. Because how could we all get in that small manual transmission car. But we made it every morning. My next memory was when I was a man and more personal. I won't forget Unc, I love you, you will be missed.
