Mattie Maude Harden Price, age 91, was born on November 3, 1933 in Wilkes County Georgia and departed this life on May 14, 2025. She was the 10th and youngest child of Edgar and Roxie Sherrer Harden. All siblings of this union preceded Mattie in death (Lena Harden Cochran, Viola Harden Willis, Elizabeth Harden Smith, Daisy Harden Bolton, Edgar Harden, Jr., Johnny Harden, Clarence Harden, Claude Harden, and Willie Harden).
At the age of 3, Mattie’s mother passed and she was reared by her older sisters, Lena Harden Cochran (of Atlanta and Chicago), and Viola Harden Willis (of Collins GA). Her father, Papa Edgar later married Ms. Arthur Lee Robinson, and to this union were born Mamie Lou Harden Fanning, Harry J. Harden, and Wade Harden. Mattie graduated from John Marshall High School, Chicago IL and attended trade school, studying Interior Decorating.
She met and married Richard Price in 1954. To this union, William, Gail, and Darlene were born. Preceding Mother Price in death were her husband Richard, beloved daughter Gail Winifred Price, and grandson William Price, Jr.
Mattie developed a love for gospel singing at a young age and was invited to sing at numerous churches her entire life. She enjoyed traveling and often took her children on vacations out-of-state.
Sister Price found a loving church home in all places in which she lived, to include Rayle GA, Athens GA, Atlanta GA, Chicago IL, San Antonio TX, and Duluth GA. For the last 20+ years, she was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Lilburn GA (where she sang in the choir, served on the Mothers Board, and attended the Senior Center). She had numerous friends and enjoyed camaraderie at her apartment complex in Duluth GA, where she happily resided for the past 15 years.
Mother Price leaves to mourn her passing, son Rev. William Price (Shirley), daughter Darlene Price, and grandson Miles A. Price, two younger siblings, Mamie Lou Harden Fanning (Rayle GA) and Harry J. “Sonny” Harden, Sr. (Atlanta GA), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
